初代はエアバッグもナビもなし
アメリカはバージニア州、アレクサンドリアにある全米発明家殿堂博物館。このホールに展示されている、ユニークなフォード・マスタングが話題を呼んでいる。
展示されたマスタングは1965年製の初代モデルと2015年製の7代目の両モデルを半分ずつ繋ぎ合わせたもの。1965年製は左ハンドル仕様の左半分を、2015年製は右ハンドル仕様の右半分が使われている。
展示されることになったのは、フォード・マスタングが初代の誕生から50年という歴史を迎える中で、自動車の技術革新を象徴するクルマとして選ばれたから。そんなマスタングが歩んだ50年はクルマ本来の安全／快適装備だけでなく、クルマに関する文化や知的財産、各種特許も大きく変化した50年といえる。
この展示物は、実際にドライバーズシートに座ることができ、両モデルを見比べることができるという。渡米する機会がある方は、ぜひ訪れてみてはいかがだろう。

The display will be unveiled on May 4, 2016 at the National Inventors Hall of Fame Museum in Alexandria, Virginia. The project is a joint effort of the Ford Motor Company and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to celebrate invention and the importance of patents in the automobile industry.
